The fruiting bodies are mostly sporangia, but there are some aethalia or pseudoaethalia; the capillitium is absent or rudimentary (except in Listerella); the pseudocapillitium is present or absent; columella absent; the spores are yellow, orange, pink, red, whitish, grey, olive ochraceous, violet, brown, sometimes dark brown or blackish brown.
Genus Cribraria. Cribraria species are characterised by a peridial net that encases the spore mass. This makes the genus easy to identify with just a hand lens; species identification is often extremely difficult.
